Cuthbert Daniel had over thirty years of experience consulting on experimentation in a variety of industries in 1976 when the book was written. He learned statistics from many of the great statisticians who were his colleagues, including John Tukey, Stu Hunter, Fred Mosteller, Bill Cochran and Henry Scheffe. As he says, the book is concerned only with confirmatory industrial experimentation where statistical methods can play an important role. He provides sage advice on the steps in planning and choosing a design for a particular experimental situation. Topics included are the factorial designs, fractional factorials, incomplete factorials (including the popular Plackett-Burman designs), trend robust plans and nested designs including split-plot designs. There is no coverage of response surface designs or other exploratory designs.

This is a terrific book that is fun to read. The only drawback is that it predates many of the recent developments such as the robust parameter designs motivated by the work of Taguchi. For a thorough up-to-date treatment see Hamada and Wu (2000) "Experiments" and my Amazon review of it.

It provides an excellent approach to Linear Algebra for self-pacing. Different from other linear algebra books, it's well organized and teaches how and why the ideas come from by providing many interesting examples.

It isn't only the classics, but the essential reference for related fields in my bookshelf.

After seeing this book, I see a lot of emphasis in structural geology. We could also add some input on Sedimentology and Geostatistics, which care more about reservoir heterogeneity.

Excellent sea adventure in the vane of Dana and Jack London's Sea Wolf. Light reading (some archaic terms). lots of action/adventure. Good kids book. Not PC at all. Lots of blood and gore. You know, real life stuff.

I found this book profound, insightful, and thought provoking; it offers a very plausible reevalution of the problems of substance in Aristotle's Metaphysics.

I had the privilege of reading Daniel Marder's book many years ago when it first came off the press. All of the usual cliches surrounding Benedict Arnold and his act of treason were fresh in my mind as I opened the front cover. But as I read the letters and diary entries in the words of both conspiritors, and allowed myself to feel the fears and passions of the time, I found myself questioning our current representation of those events in our history books. Were Benedict Arnold and John Andre dastardly, unscrupulous men? Or were they devoted patriotic soldiers from opposing sides who simply could no longer bear the price of war? The author examines the events that let up to that infamous act through the hearts and minds of Arndre and Arnold.

Danial Fox has written a very informative book that I would highly recommend to anyone intrested in Great Plains arrowheads.I found the section on lithic materials very helpful and the pictures of artifacts fantastic. It's packed cover to cover with good information.
